Short segments I find here and there

Ping ping stats kinect

In other words a miscellaneous post.

I think it is so cool (and a bit nerve wracking) when I get an alert that someone has pinged me. Meaning somewhere out there in the blogosphere, one of my posts has been shared with their public.  I am pleasantly surprised when Maggie does this, it’s like “Oh COOL! She likes something I said enough to reference it at her blog.” It’s never a concern of mine because Maggie and I are generally on the same page on the things we write about. Now when I get a pingback from some place I never heard of before it’s like “Oh shit, someone used something from one of my posts and it may be someone disagreeing with me and calling me some stupid ho.” In which case I’d cry – yes hookers have feelings. But I would deal with it, knowing that they have as much right to their opinion as I do to mine and that’s what blogs are for – expressing opinions or news no matter if they agree or disagree with your own personal feelers.

I am particularly concerned about this when I go off on a subject, for example my Pussy Control post. I certainly wasn’t the most subtle or PC person when writing that. People would either love it or hate it. So I got a “ping/trackback”  on it and I followed it. Whew. It wasn’t bad. You can see it here.

I also want to thank Mags for her post here. I broke 100 views! I’m so excited, humbly so compared to her 100,000 views.

AND I got an X-Box Kinect with the game “Dance Central”. Cheaper investment than a gym membership and Oh so much more fun! Working on nobody mistaking me for a beached whale when trying to get a tan on the beach this summer.

AND a random image for no other purpose than it just made me giggle.

Another little snippet.

Came across this regarding this article: (this is in the comment section, where God bless them, the hookers are standing up and being counted and giving the anti’s shit about their beliefs!)

When I grow up :

23 Mar 2011 8:28:31am

I know a woman in northern NSW who used to be a prostitute. She now has four children, three of whom are girls. I asked her how she would feel about her daughters growing up and becoming prostitutes. She looked at me as if I was mad, and said she’d rather see them live in poverty all their lives than go through what she went through when plying her trade. I guess no one has told her about prostitute pride, the in thing now.

I know a woman in Northern NSW too who used to work in a car factory. I asked her how she would feel about her daughters growing up and working on a production line. She looked at me as if I was mad, and said she’d rather see them live on the dole all their lives than go through what she went through in that soul destroying job. I guess no one has told her about upskilling, that choice that we all have if we take responsibility for our lives.

          Oh good call.

Just want to point out that upskilling also happens within the sex industry.

If you don’t like being a streetwalker, you can get a job in a parlour or escort service, but of course you have to be prepared to work the length of your shift (usually between 8 and 10 hours), split your earnings (usually 50/50) and present yourself as management requires.

This can include anything from a dress code, (including topless or lingerie or a business suit or a sundress or…. anything really) to being required to knock 5 or 10 years off your age, or a dress size smaller, to being a different nationality, to fit in with what the receptionist has told the clients over the phone about you.

If you can’t work within the parameters management have set up, you won’t keep your job or build a regular clientele.

If you don’t like working for the man, you can work for yourself, but this requires you to run your own sole trader business, which of course requires you to do your own advertising, organise your own business premises and/or outcall service, and do a lot of things the parlour did for you.

The upside is you can now run your business as you see fit and set your own rates.

There are other paths people can take to upskill their way into a position more suited to them. Kinksters can train in fetish and BDSM practises.

People who more enjoyed the administrative side of the work can open their own parlour or escort service and arrange bookings for other workers who prefer to avoid the admin.

People who revel in the performance aspect can move into burlesque or porn.

As in other industries, upskilling or specialising will result in a better rate of pay and better working conditions. It isn’t the dead end job that people seem to think it is.

Criminalizing Sex Outside of Marriage

Came across this today:

State Nominee Wants to Criminalize Sex Outside of Marriage

Do you ever wonder if social conservatives are actually anti-sex or if it’s just a massive coincidence that their agenda on sexual politics and rights suggests it? Meet Don Haase, appointed to a judicial selection panel by Alaska governor Sean Parnell, who recently admitted that he thinks sex outside of marriage should be illegal.

During hearings, a Democratic state senator asked Haase if adultery should be a felony. Per the Alaska Daily News:

“I don’t see that that would rise to the level of a felony,” Haase said.

Paskvan: “Do you believe it should be a crime?”

Haase: “Yeah, I think it’s very harmful to have extramarital affairs. It’s harmful to children, it’s harmful to the spouse who entered a legally binding agreement to marry the person that’s cheating on them.”

Paskvan: “What about premarital affairs — should that be a crime?”

Haase: “I think that would be up to the voters certainly. If it came before (the state) as a vote, I probably would vote for it … I can see where it would be a matter for the state to be involved with because of the spread of disease and the likelihood that it would cause violence. I can see legitimate reasons to push that as a crime.”

You heard it from Haase first: Sex before marriage will lead to murderous rampages.

Careful what you wish for? I remember stating that if they wanted to criminilize prostitution because it spreads disease then they should just criminalize sex because seriously, it’s highly unlikely that you would catch an STD if you didn’t have sex (barring a blood transfusion or something of course). I didn’t mean for them to actually do it! Could you imagine if the abolitionist groups went up in arms about sex in general? Would we have a pre-marital or affair ruckus going on with bogus statistics? Wow, no more Adult Friend Finder, casual encounter ads, or anything. Next step would be making masturbation illegal.

This is when I’ll be moving to Australia to hang out with Lani or move back to Germany. Sheesh!

Legal sex trade in Singapore. What the US doesn’t ‘get’.

In Singapore, Sex Business is Booming

…the US State Department downgraded Singapore in its Trafficking in Persons (TIP) report. The report said some women from China, the Philippines and Thailand were tricked into coming to the city-state with promises of legitimate employment and then coerced into the sex trade after arrival.

Singapore authorities issued an indignant reply, saying their efforts to curb trafficking had not slackened and asking the US government to look at its own immigration record before commenting on other countries’ situations.

Local women’s rights activist Braema Mathi advocates protection of prostitutes in Singapore and closer regulation of the industry.

“All we want is for the women to be protected and not judge them for the work that they have decided to take on,” she told AFP.

“We believe that one of the better ways to protect women is to ensure that they work in licensed brothels, where there is a fee structure and condoms,” Mathi added.

“This way the women can be protected from exploitation and from succumbing to diseases.”

With a regulated sex industry, Singapore authorities can turn their attention to women forced into prostitution, she said.

U.S. tax dollars used to train Chinese prostitutes.

This story is from 2009 but still…

The National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAA), a part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), will pay $2.6 million in U.S. tax dollars to train Chinese prostitutes to drink responsibly on the job.

To live forever

It’s only when we truly know and understand that we have a limited time on earth — and that we have no way of knowing when our time is up — that we will begin to live each day to the fullest, as if it was the only one we had.

– Elisabeth Kubler-Ross

So if a man immortal, what shall his days be like?
